What Is Guide To Gymnastics?

First of all, let me begin by explaining what gymnastics is.  Gymnastics is a sport, and a really demanding one, too.  It involves the performance of exercises which require perfect flexibility, balance, and control.  The sport itself developed from exercises which the ancient Greeks used.

Gymnastics Disciplines

According to FédérationInternationale de Gymnastique (FIG), there are numerous gymnastics disciplines including: vault, uneven bars, balance beam, floor exercise, pommel horse, still rings, parallel bars, the high bar, rhythmic gymnastics, trampolining , tumbling and aerobic gymnastics (I sure hope I didn’t leave anything out!) FIG, however, doesn’t recognize

men’s rhythmic gymnastics(I know, right, talking about the unequality of men and women!) and TeamGym as disciplines. The participans in recognized disciplines can be from 20 months old children who participate in kindergym, children’s gymnastics, recreational gymnasts from ages five and up, competitive gymnasts (of varying skills) and world class athletes.

What’s a Vault?

Vault is the discipline where the gymnasts sprint down 25 meters before jumping onto or performing a roundoff entry onto a springboard and land momentarily inverted on the hands on the vaulting horse, or vaulting table. Then the gymnasts propel themselves forward of backwar, off of the platform to a two footed landing. Depending on their height and strength, every gymnast starts at a different point on the vault runway.

What’s Floor?

Floor is the gymnastic discipline in which gymnasts perform a choreographer to routine accompanied by a music piece.  This routine will lasts up to 90 seconds, and takes place on the floor which is usually a carpeted nowadays, although in the past bare floor mats, such as wrestling mats, were used.  The routine can contain series of jumps, dance elements, acrobatic skills and turns and pivots. Men’s floor routines are performed without music during which they demonstrate flexibility, strength and balance, by performing circles, scales, presshabdstands.

What’s Rythmic Gymnastics?

Rhythmic gymnastics is a sport which combines elements of ballet, gymnastics, dance, and apparatus manipulation.  The performer and uses a ball, a ribbon, a hoop, clubs and a rope on the floor area, and the emphasis is on the aesthetics of the performance, rather than on the acrobatic.

Out of possible 30 points which a gymnast can score, the points are divided for artistry, difficulty of the moves and execution. Such a pity men cannot take part into rhythmic gymnastics!

Trampolining and tumbling (Wait a Minute – That’s A Sport?)

14969715_200807151537373890400Here’s the dream sport of every child, as well as the child within us, adults. Trampolining and tumbling are gymnastics disciplines which consist of four events, individual and synchronized trampoline, double mini trampoline, and of course tumbling, which is also known as power tumbling or rod floor. This amazing sport has even been included in the Olympic Games as of the year 2000.
